Tomorrow my girls go back to school after their Christmas break. While I’m really happy for a bit of breathing space and a break from endless cartoons and all things animated. Even stranger is their excitement to return to school. I suspect it’s mainly due to the planned report on their Christmas gifts. No doubt the thrill of being back at school will quickly subside once Friday arrives with homework.
Now all I have to do is master the art of getting to the alarm clock before it gets to me. Night school would be such a convenient option for a sleepy head mom like me!
This morning we had the first bit of snow and it really was a bit which was quickly followed by the brightest sunshine. It was also the last day of school for my girls and somehow I feel the break means more to me than them – I am honestly fed up with my annoying alarm clock and these depressingly dark mornings. The school day ended with carols on the playground and it was magically graced by a flurry of sleet. It was not enough to dampen our spirits though and we sang ourselves jolly.
I am now seriously in festive mode. It has been a steady progression to this point but I can hardly wait for the big celebration. Before I get too excited about sleeping late and being a general sloth I have the serious task of getting my husband’s gift. Fortunately he is not very difficult to please. On the other hand short of sending him a link of my gift wish I have given him some very big hints!
So while frosty is threatening to spoil my shopping plans I will not be entertaining him. Ho! ho! ho! it’s off to the shops I go.
I absolutely love this time of the year. It is now exactly one month to Christmas day. I’ve tried to get a head start on my girls gifts and so far so good. I even managed to get their dresses sorted. They are a fantastic age to appreciate the festive season.
The city’s Christmas lights were switched on a fortnight ago and the streets look magical. Everywhere you go there are reminders of this special season. In addition to all of these festive reminders Birmingham also happens to have the largest Christmas German market after Berlin!
My tree is still tucked away in a box and I can’t wait to set it up. My husband has forbidden me from putting it up before December. ‘Tis the season to be jolly and I’m loving it!
